Most people prefer sleeping in a clean bed. We’ve got bad news for the people of New York (or anywhere in the globe, really). Several hotels in the city were revealed to be committing unhygienic practices such as not changing bedsheets after each guest.
Thanks to Inside Edition, a number of New York hotels were outed after an interesting test was conducted by their investigative team using invisible fluorescent paint.

The way it works was they would spray on the words “I slept here”, and, if it just so happens that the hotel’s housekeeping neglected to change their bedsheets once the guests left, then the words would turn up once again under an ultraviolet light.
The team, who took on the roles of guests, were able to catch three out of nine hotels who didn’t change their bedsheets. The hotels in question? Candlewood Inn & Suits, La Quinta Inns & Suits, and Residence Inn by Marriott.
Take note, these hotels were the same ones that take pride in their standards of quality and excellence. When they were confronted by the Inside Edition reporters, all of the hotels’ management staff said that they were clueless as to how this came to be.
The manager from Residence Inn by Marriott even refused to address the issue at first.
A statement from La Quinta Inns & Suites reads:
“We strive to provide a positive, consistent guest experience at all of our branded hotels. This includes providing a clean guestroom for every guest. We have reached out to the management team at this franchised location to understand what happened and have addressed the issue.”
Marriott hotels, on the other hand, said that they would conduct room inspections.
“We were concerned to hear of the comments about the cleanliness of one of our guest rooms, as we pride ourselves on the high standards of cleanliness throughout the hotel. … We apologized to the guest who brought this to our attention and take these comments very seriously. We are inspecting the room thoroughly to insure this does not recur.”
